Medicare’s Annual Notice of Change

Important Updates to Your Medicare Advantage Plan
Every fall, you receive mail related to Medicare. One piece of mail you should be sure to read is the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) sent from your Medicare Advantage plan provider. The letter should arrive by September 30 and provide important details about your current plan before Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) officially begins.
If you have a Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, the ANOC explains any changes and updates to your plan for the upcoming year.* You can use this information to decide whether to stick with your current plan or switch to a new health insurance plan during AEP.
Review changes to your Medicare Advantage plan
When analyzing your ANOC, look for changes in specific areas:
Cost. Check for any change in your monthly premium. Prominence Medicare Advantage Plans have a $0 premium. Determine if your out-of-pocket maximum will change. Look for updates on the cost of deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance. Prominence plans offer telemedicine visits, primary care visits and lab testing for $0.
Coverage. You may see that benefits and services have been added or removed from your plan. Ensure that your health insurance plan will cover your current health needs. For example, if you were recently diagnosed with heart disease, you may want a plan tailored to those needs, from services to prescription drug prices.
Prescription medication. Ensure that your new plan covers all of the medications you take. Pay special attention to “medication tiers” since the tier can change the cost of prescriptions. Also, double-check that your preferred pharmacy is still part of the plan.
Provider network. Confirm your current healthcare providers, including specialists, are still included in the plan’s network. Do the same for your local hospitals and the wellness or family clinics you visit.
Contact your plan provider if you don’t understand something in the ANOC or did not receive the letter. You can find their customer service number on the back of your member card.
Why does the ANOC matter to your health?
Medicare plans update their coverage, provider networks and costs each year. Reviewing the ANOC helps you avoid surprises after January 1 and ensures you’re prepared for any changes. Whether you decide to keep your plan or shop for a new one, it’s important to make your choice based on the facts.
Take time to review your ANOC carefully. It’s the first step to ensuring your Medicare Advantage plan meets your health and medical needs.
